How Ansaldo increased the level of service by planning at finite capacity

APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling), Electromechanical Sector

How Ansaldo Energia achieved a 26% service level increase, thanks to the finite capacity production planning software, CyberPlan.

Ansaldo Energia: electromechanical production with a turnover of 1 billion euros

Ansaldo Energia is the largest Italian company and one of the leading worldwide for the production, installation and supply of services for electrical systems with a turnover of €1 billion and a staff of 2,600 people.

Founded in Genoa in 1853, Ansaldo has established itself from the beginning as a leading mechanical engineering company, working in the railway sector and producing marine engines since the beginning of the 20th century, when it entered the power generation sector by building its first electrical production plant in Cornigliano.

Advanced planning and scheduling, integrated into the SAP management system

Ansaldo Energia needed to increase the quality of production planning, done through multiple tools (SAP, Project, Excel, etc.) that did not allow collaborative planning and limited the visibility of the entire production. The main challenge of the company, operating in the metalworking sector with an ETO and MTO type production, was to increase the level of service, understood as the company’s ability to satisfy (in the extreme anticipate) the requests and expectations (explicit and possibly implicit) of customers at the right time and with the right products/services.

The APS Software: CyberPlan

The selected solution was CyberPlan Finite Capacity Production Planning Software. Cybertec’s Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) has been integrated into the existing IT reality in an effective and efficient way. The software, which has been modelled on the company’s needs, has also made it possible to redesign production planning processes.

KPIs after APS: reliable delivery dates and high level of service

The most relevant KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) have increased considerably following the implementation of CyberPlan, reaching in a short time a:

  • Increase in production planning efficiency (compared to appointments between orders): +33%
  • Increase in the quality of finite-capacity production planning (correspondence between planned and scheduled finite-capacity dates): +60%
  • Increase in overall service level: steadily increasing trend +26%
